This is really interesting… it always shocks me when I see photographers not using the grips, but you bring up some valid points. Personally, I’ve always used one, and it completely throws me off if I don’t have one on the camera… the reason I use battery grips is not necessarily for longer battery life (which is nice, but you could always just switch a battery), but because of the balance. I find that the camera feels much more balanced and steady with a battery grip when using heavy lenses such as the 70-200 or 24-70.
