WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AT
OLD DOWN ESTATE
Editorial Photography for Weddings
SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Ideal for couples looking to blend romance with a casual, countryside setting.
Old Down Manor is one of those venues that just feels right. Set in the countryside just outside Bristol, it’s a historic manor with bags of character, but it’s never stiff or formal — it’s the kind of place that immediately makes you feel at home. The team there are lovely, welcoming, and genuinely make everything run smoothly, and I’ve shot weddings there in every season. It’s always a beautiful spot to celebrate.
For me as a photographer, it’s a joy to shoot at. The house has amazing natural light, the gardens are perfect for a quiet wander or some relaxed portraits, and there’s plenty of space for the day to flow naturally. By the evening, the venue really comes alive, giving couples a gorgeous backdrop for both intimate moments and proper celebrations on the dance floor. Old Down Manor has that perfect mix of charm, comfort, and timeless style — it just works.
THE INFO
Old Down Manor is gorgeous in the daylight, with the house and gardens full of charm, then by evening it transforms into a proper party spot.

MY HIGHLIGHTS
I LOVE OLD DOWN
If there’s one venue in the South West that just nails it, Old Down Estate has to be up there.
It’s no wonder I absolutely love it when couples ask me to be their Old Down Estate wedding photographer!
A BIT ABOUT IT
THE HISTORY
Old Down Estate has everything you could want from a wedding venue and then some. Set in the beautiful countryside just outside Bristol, it’s a historic house full of character and charm, with gardens that make for the perfect backdrop.
It’s not just about how it looks — there’s a real warmth and atmosphere here, which matters so much when you’re spending one of the most important days of your life in a place.
CHURCH WEDDING?
If you’re after a traditional church ceremony, there’s one less than a mile away in Olveston (or Thornbury, depending on your preference). But you can also tie the knot right inside Old Down Manor — the Hall has amazing high ceilings and beautiful stained glass, making it such a stunning spot for a civil ceremony.
I’ve had the joy of photographing weddings here where the atmosphere was just electric — from couples’ first looks to those unforgettable moments walking down the aisle. The house and grounds give so many opportunities for relaxed, natural shots, and it always feels like the perfect mix of historic charm and modern celebration.
THE RECEPTION
After the ceremony, the celebrations can flow straight onto the lawns at Old Down Manor, which are perfect for drinks, games, or just soaking up the sunshine. I’ve seen couples and their guests get stuck into everything from lawn games to completely unexpected 3pm limbo (and honestly, there’s never enough 3pm limbo at weddings). The space feels relaxed, fun, and full of life — exactly what a wedding should be.
Old Down Manor really is one of those venues that never fails to impress. I’ve shot weddings there in every season, and there’s always something that makes me stop and smile. Every corner has its own charm, which keeps guests exploring and enjoying the day — and, as a photographer, it’s an absolute dream, because there’s always a new spot to capture relaxed portraits, candid moments, and beautiful details.
