BEST WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY 2018
So, in annual tradition it’s time to do a roundup and share my best wedding photography of 2018. I really can’t believe it’s that time of year again. Whilst I still have a few weddings left to photograph in my ‘winter downtime’ I thought I’d take stock and look back at 2018. It’s pretty amazing seeing a culmination of all of my work together.
I don’t often blow my own trumpet but I was hugely proud of my best of 2017. That said I switched things up quite a lot this year. Specifically a new camera system really helped me concentrate a lot more on moments. It’s something I have always focussed on but I took it up a gear in 2018. You can find my review of the Sony A9 here – but to put it simply it really gave me a new lease of life and helped me capture more moments than ever.
Not so much photos of the bride’s shoes, or ‘cutting the cake’ – but the in between moments, the funny moments, the expressions, the high fives, fist bumps, the kisses, the champagne bottle exploding, the confetti falling, the tears, the looks, the children playing and all the feels in between. Those are the moments I really tried to capture in my 2018 weddings.
I don’t really enter very many photography competitions but I do believe in The Wedding Industry Awards. I was lucky enough to win the regional award in 2017, and to prove that wasn’t an entire fluke I was slightly surprised to win again (regionally) in 2018. In case you don’t know, you can only win this award by being voted for by your couples. They score you. Write about you. Give feedback. Rate you. It’s the ultimate test. So a HUGE thank you to everyone who took time to vote for me. I was really proud to win this and it’s really nice to know people think I’m quite good at this photography lark.
I also made it through as a finalist in the British Photography Awards. Winners aren’t announced until January so I’ll keep you posted!
A MASSIVE MASSIVE thank you to all of my 2018 couples. I really am SO lucky to do this job and I owe you all a huge high five for trusting me to capture your day. As well as investing a lot buying new camera equipment I invested a lot of extra time editing this year. Nothing mind blowing. Small tweaks. Little clean ups. Probably details most people wouldn’t really notice! It’s a new level of OCD! But I strived to make every single moment as perfect and as vibrant as it could be for you. I’m a big believer that the value of wedding photos only increases as time goes on. Our memories, feelings, and loved ones are kept alive in these images and it’s a huge honour for me to take them for you. So thank you.
I did a lot less travel in 2018 than 2017 – but I was still lucky enough to visit Italy, France and Spain. Spain was a new one for me and I can’t wait to head back there (twice) in 2019. It was also the year of the great British heatwave, the World Cup and also a few pretty rainy wedding days. I have to say – that although it rained hard and long on at least three wedding days I loved embracing the bad weather. Rather than it dampening my spirit I found it surprisingly refreshing and loved the challenge of creating something new and unique. I never let anything get in the way of me taking great wedding photos and this year was a case in point!
Now here are a few of my favourite images from 2018. I cut down from 38,000 to 450, to 100. It was a really hard process as I genuinely love every single photograph that I deliver and I think you will too.
Here’s to 2019 – may it all bring us laughter, adventure and plenty of moments!
