Capturing Moments, Crafting Memories: The Magic of Wedding Photography & 5-Minute Highlight Films

Hey there, I’m Albert, a Bristol wedding photographer that also makes highlight films. Also known as hybrid wedding photo and video.

Yes, I’m obsessed with the art of wedding photography – I mean, what wedding photographer isn’t? But here’s where I take it a step further: I’m also passionate about creating short wedding films as well as doing the photography.
It’s a huge cliche but the day really does fly by. Whilst photos go a long way towards capturing the magic there’s certain things it doesn’t document, specifically the sound of your loved ones voice and the little nuances of family interaction.
Here’s where my approach comes in – creating a 5 minute highlight film where you get the best of both. In the wedding industry it’s known as a hybrid wedding photographer.

More Than Just Photos: Why I Do Both

Photos freeze the moment. They capture the emotion, the details, and the energy in a single frame. But video? Video brings your day to life – the movement, the sound, and the vibe – in ways that photos alone can’t.
Also, I love the creative challenge. After so long photographing weddings I find I have quite a lot of headspace and to some extent the technology has made life easier. So that after I’ve taken a few photos I can easily press the record button and take a 6-10 second clip of video.
When I “shoot hybrid” I’m collecting lots of these little video clips through the day. Then, I stitch those moments all together in to a 5-minute highlight film. I incorporate sound from your day, the laughter, the vows, the music – into a lovely little keepsake.

A film you can watch over and over again.

Why the 5-Minute Highlight Film?

A lot of couples have told me that they feel like they’re in the wedding day when they watch their highlight film. It’s the little details – the way their partner’s eyes light up when they see them for the first time, the sound of your speeches drifting through the air, guests laughing as they enjoy the sun.
Those moments, those feels, are captured not just through photos but through the magic of motion and sound.

But why 5 minutes?

Because that’s all it takes to relive the highlights.

Let’s be real: after your wedding, everyone’s going to want to see the good stuff – not a two-hour feature film. So I create a short, punchy, emotive highlight film that’s easy to share with friends, post on social media, or just watch whenever you need a little dose of wedding-day joy.

You get the best of both worlds.

Should you get a videographer?

Now, if video is really important to you then you should 100% hire a videographer. There’s only so much I can capture alone – and I always prioritise the photos. A videographer will bring a ton of experience, they’ll likely be using multiple cameras and they have a real skill at editing which frankly is 50% of a good film.
Because I prioritise the photos, the highlight video is the part that just can’t be as good as a dedicated videographer (and their three/four cameras simultaneously recording.)

Also, in a lot of situations it’s not really possible for me to record the ceremony in it’s entirety. I can squeeze in the speeches and record those with a single camera. For some people that’s enough and also why it’s priced significantly lower than a good videographer.

How do you capture both at the same time?

At key points in the day (such as walking down the aisle or confetti) I will use two cameras to capture it all. One for photos and a second for video. It’s really simple and means there is very little compromise.

Does it compromise the photos?

99% of the day it doesn’t affect the photos at all. They’re always prioritised and I take everything I would as normal. The 1% might be where I’m recording with two cameras – and that does slightly change my composition.

Final thoughts.
