Wedding Photographer of the Year – South West Region – 2017

Wedding Photographer of the Year - South West Region - 2017

Wedding Photographer of the Year – South West Region – 2017

This weeks blog post is going to be really simple. I just have to say a HUGE thank you to all of the couples who hired me this last year. I attended a packed awards evening last night. It was  good fun to catch up with friends, make some new ones and put faces to names. That said I was pretty surprised to have won my category. The Wedding Photographer of the Year in the South West Region is tough and I had some pretty epic competition.

I love my job. It makes me really happy and I know I’m one of the few who can do what they love for a living. I’ve never entered before, but every year The Wedding Industry Awards peek my interest. Amongst the people I know in the industry it has the most prestige. The winners win based on feedback from our ‘customers.’ Whilst being great at what you do clearly matters, the measure is from our couples. This resonates with me because my ‘mission statement’ from day 1 has been to ‘make people happy.’

This year my wife told me to enter. She is normally right about most things and so I did. The wedding photography category is meant to be very competitive. So, in honesty I wasn’t holding out for a win. I was secretly hoping to maybe get an honourable mention (as I do work REALLY HARD!) but to win really was pretty special to me. A HUGE thank you to everyone who voted. I really really appreciate you taking the time to do it and am very grateful for all the lovely things you said.

2016 has been a fantastic year. I was hoping to reduce the amount of weddings I go to, but for some reason that plan failed and I ended up doing more. I just got so many great enquiries I simply couldn’t say no. My job is a blast and I had such a great time, meeting new people, witnessing people getting married and recording some really important memories. I also had a a few destination weddings thrown in. But I have happy fond memories from every wedding I go to.

You can see my updated wedding photography portfolio with a few 2016 favourites. I also have a ‘best of 2016’ blog post coming up soon too so stayed tuned!
