Why Lulworth Castle Weddings Make Me Do a Little Desk Dance

One of the reasons I love living in the South West is the abundance of incredible venues we have. This means that pretty much every time I get an enquiry I get excited; but the desk dance I do is of a particular intensity when I get an enquiry to be a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer.

If you’re familiar with the venue, you’ll probably know why I love being a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer. However, if you’ve not yet been introduced to this special place, let me do the honours…

01. One of the most beautiful places in the world

If you’ve heard of the world-famous Durdle Door, you’ve heard of Lulworth without realising it. The Lulworth Estate is 13000 acres of rolling countryside, with 5 miles of World Heritage Jurassic Coast that includes the jaw-dropping Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.

As you can imagine, then, the surroundings are pretty spectacular – which is just one of the reasons I love being a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer. Set in 1000 acres of unspoiled countryside, Lulworth Castle is a stunning fairytale wedding venue in the heart of it all.

I LOVE LULWORTH

The setting might be a tough act to follow, but the buildings on the grounds are totally jaw-dropping too: making it the perfect venue for anyone and everyone planning a luxurious wedding day.

If you’re after a Christian ceremony, the Estate houses two historic settings where you can get married: an Anglican church and a Catholic chapel. Not only are they historic, they’re iconic too. St Andrew’s Church was designed by Thomas Hardy (yep, the famous one, from poems and novels and stuff), whilst St Mary’s Chapel is widely thought to be one of the finest pieces of Georgian architecture in Dorset.

A BIT ABOUT IT

FOUNDED IN 1274

And I couldn’t tell you how much I love being a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer without bigging up the castle itself, could I? It’s pretty much a DREAM. The four towers and steps leading up to the castle set the tone immediately (plus, they look incredible at sunset.)

Once inside, the mega high ceilings and beautiful windows mean light streams into The Dining Room and The Saloon, and the delicious combination of exposed brickwork and luxe chandeliers gives everything a rustic, romantic feel.

Portraits sessions as a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer

Couples’ photos are one of my favourite parts of the day wherever you’re getting married (and one of my couple’s favourites, too, which usually catches them by surprise!) but all of the above means the portraits session as a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer is next level.

There are just so many backdrops for incredible shots, both inside and outside. But don’t worry, part of my promise as a candid wedding photographer is that I’ll never whisk you away for too long – so you can get incredible portraits and maximise the time you spend with your loved ones.

YOU CAN MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Where can you go after the ceremony? Rebecca and Steven continued theirI’ve been lucky enough to be a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer a few times now (in fact, it was the last place I shot a wedding at in 2020, before We All Know What happened). Each time has been a new adventure, as the venue is the perfect place for you to make your own. It’s not a totally blank canvas, as it’s got bucketloads of brilliant character already, but it’s definitely somewhere you can add your own personality to.

For example, I’ve had the pleasure of working with The Singing Waiter Masters for a couple of times now, and they always get the room BOUNCING. Some of my grooms have made full use of the games room at the holiday cottage onsite, which made for some fantastic getting ready shots. And if the weather’s on your side, why not go for some lawn games whilst you enjoy canapés and cocktails? It’s a pretty epic backdrop…party onto the grassy lawn outside, where they and their guests, among other things, enjoyed a spot of 3pm limbo (You don’t get enough 3pm limbo at weddings, in my opinion.)

GETTING MARRIED AT LULWORTH CASTLE?

If you’re getting married at this stunner of a venue and are looking for a Lulworth Castle wedding photographer, I’d love to chat about your plans. Or maybe you’re a bit earlier on in your planning journey and haven’t yet booked your venue – it’d still be great to talk about what you’re hoping for.
